Play Up Policy

Club Statement regarding rep players who wish to play up an age division.

Policy Statement

It is the Policy of the MBA that players shall play in their age appropriate division as established by Ontario Basketball.

The MBA Executive may grant an exemption, upon request, to an athlete that possess exceptional skill and whose basketball skill development would benefit from playing up an age division.

Policy Provisions

  1. Player to attend age appropriate try-out, unless has prior approval to play up
  2. Requests to play up are evaluated on a case by case basis
  3. If approval is granted, it is valid for the duration of the player’s MBA experience
  4. Current players to make request prior to try-out
  5. New players to make request at first try-out for age appropriate team
  6. If there is no team at their age division, a player is automatically eligible to try-out for a team in the next age division
  7. Team Coach may make request to MBA Executive if after try-outs are complete there are not enough players to field a team
  8. Decisions are made by MBA Executive based on an independent evaluation of player
  9. It must be determined by the independent evaluation that the Player has sufficient skills to be one of the top six players on the team they wish to try-out for the request to be approved.
  10. If the player is unsuccessful making the higher age team, they may play for the age appropriate team at the discretion of the coach

Policy Administration

This policy is administered by the Midland Basketball Association Executive.
