$2500 Raised for Well Project in Uganda
The U15 Girls and their coach, Keith Leonard, raise money every year to donate to a special cause. This year, they decided to donate $2,500 to support the construction of a well in Uganda.
The Midland Mystics teamed up with the Ryerson University Women’s Basketball team and Basket Plus to raise $12,000 for the construction of a well in Kamengo, Uganda to benefit the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club. Through various fundraising activities the Mystics team was able to raise $2,500 for the cause. As a thank-you to the Mystics, the Ryerson team along with the Ottawa University women’s basketball team hosted the Mystics to a fantastic night of basketball along with a pizza party, and a meet and greet with the teams and their coaches.
Basket Plus is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to giving varsity sport teams the opportunity to be involved in the community whether locally, nationally or internationally while using basketball as a positive platform to educate youth in disadvantaged neighborhoods and/or in the developing world. The founder of the organization, Rose-Anne Jolly, is the Head Coach of the University of Ottawa’s women’s basketball team. The group has also organized and funded projects in Togo and Haiti to build outdoor basketball courts and sport complexes.
